Racing Format and Start Times
We have 2 racing formats at Paremata.
‘Clubhouse starts’ and ‘Committee boat starts’. We now aim to run one Clubhouse start once a month and the other races will be Committee boat starts.
In ‘Clubhouse starts’ the race starts right alongside the clubhouse and race up the channel to the main body of the inlet, around the course, and back up the channel to finish at the clubhouse. These races start in the morning at 10:30. One race is scheduled per race day. Depending on tide and weather it can take from 1 hour to 2 hours to complete the race. Racing up and down the channel is a unique and fun part of sailing at Paremata.
In ‘Committee boat starts’ the race starts from a boat anchored in the main body of the inlet, races around the course and usually finished back at the committee boat (or they can finish at the clubhouse depending on the course chosen by the race officer). These races start at 10.30 am on a Sunday and 3 races are scheduled per race day, 2 short sprint races and 1 longer race. It usually takes about 2-2.5 hours to complete all the races depending on conditions.
See the Racing documents below for more details of the race course.
