Open Fleet

Open Fleet
Sailors have graduated from White fleet sail in Open fleet during club racing.

Coaching for Open fleet sailors continue on Friday evenings 4.30 - 7.15pm and they are also invited to Join the Race Squad training on Tuesdays.  Sailors will aim to be back at the boat club by 6.45pm for a debrief, boat wash, pack up and change and a 7.15pm finish.

On Fridays, the Open Fleet sailors will work through level 5 skills. They will also cross-train in O’pen Skiffs to gain experience in a different type of boat. O’pen skiffs can be hired from
the club for Open fleet sailors to use on Friday evenings and Sunday racing. Approximately 40% of the Friday training will take place in open skiffs the rest of the sessions in Optimists.

The aim for this group of sailors is to be able to confidently compete in the Open Fleet at local and away Optimist regatta’s including National events. Sailors may also choose to compete in O’pen skiff events.

Boats and Parent Support
Sailors are expected to keep their Optimist in good race-ready condition and may need to
upgrade some parts. Parents are encouraged to be involved and may need to help with basic boat maintenance and crew on support boats. Parents are responsible for organising transportation of Optimists and sailors to events – club trailers can be borrowed if required.

Hire of club O’pen skiffs will be via a 6-trip ticket. A sailor will be assigned an O’pen skiff boat to use, please don’t mix and match parts. Please let coaches or club committee members know if there are any O’pen skiff breakages/repairs required.
